Development of citizenship competences with teachers of Severodonetsk
On February 28, a seminar-training «Development of Citizenship Competences in Modern Educational Practice» was held on the basis of the secondary school № 20 in Severodonetsk. DOCCU master-trainers Olena Buriak, Olga Kechik, and Nadiya Lysenko worked with teachers of the educational institution.
During the seminar, the participants together with the master-trainers considered the main issues of education for democratic citizenship and human rights education (EDC/HRE) and such basic principles of EDC/HRE as the teaching «about», «for», «through» democracy.
Teachers were very interested in the practical component of the training, where they used various exercises and techniques, innovative forms and methods of work on the formation of civic competences in school education («Abbey of acquaintances», «An emblem», «Applause», etc.). Exercise events were developed as examples of interactive activities that help to master the content of specific subjects and at the same time develop the components of citizenship and social competences. Particular attention was paid to the group forms of work, methods, and technics of social interaction during the educational process, opportunities for the provision of human rights, tools for a democratic lesson. Such exercises as «Bingo» and «Balloon Races» contributed to the formation of citizenship and social competences in the studying of various school subjects.
