Formation of citizenship competences for future teachers of primary school

Teachers of pedagogical universities continue to study. A team of experts from the DOCCU project at the training seminar «Formation of Citizenship competences for Future teachers of primary schools» teaches democracy through practical experience.

50 teachers, who teach future teacher-beginners from Ivano-Frankivsk, Luhansk, Kyiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Odesa regions and the city of Kyiv, attended the seminar.

Teachers studied the key areas, concepts, and principles of EDC/HRE, an approach to learning based on human rights. There were discussed such questions as: «What is citizenship competency?», «Is it possible to build a democratic school?», «Why are traditional forms of citizenship education not working?». Participants also designed models of citizenship competences for high school teachers, teachers, and pupils.

«On the new educational platform «Living in Democracy» there are practical manuals for teachers and principal s, for students and their parents, developed by leading European experts, and subsequently adapted by Ukrainian educational experts within the framework of the DOCCU project. The manuals include exercises and educational games for education for democratic citizenship and human rights education (EDC/HRE) that can be used in schools for teaching all school subjects and in extracurricular and extracurricular work with students», – emphasized the project manager Natalia Protasova.

The participants are expected to meet with the teachers and pupils of the pilot schools of the DOCCU project, where teachers will in practice adopt new methods and techniques.
