A public debate on the reform of specialised secondary education was held with support from the DECIDE Project in the Kyiv region

On June 18, the fifth discussion of the reform of specialised secondary education took place in the Kyiv area. The event was organised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with the Kyiv Regional State Administration in partnership with the DECIDE Swiss-Ukrainian project.

More than 150 participants attended the meeting, including representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, regional administration, regional council, heads of territorial communities and heads of education departments.

The participants of the meeting shared their vision of the goals of the reform and discussed the phases of its implementation. The founders of academic lyceums, territorial communities' cooperative conditions, and finance strategies were all topics of discussion.

During the conversation, questions were raised concerning teacher preparation programs, community collaboration models for maintaining educational facilities, and funding for specialized secondary education.

The next steps are to amend the regulations based on the results of network modelling and public discussions. For this purpose, discussions are held to first hear the opinion of territorial communities and develop a regulatory framework following the interests of communities.
