In Tereshky, a modern school shelter was equipped. What was done and what are the impressions from the new educational space
The Tereshky territorial community in Poltava region has renovated a school shelter, creating a modern and comfortable space for learning.
According to the head of the community, Vitaliy Turpitko, the conditions in the shelter were critical before the work began: «There were piles of rubbish, the floor was not even poured concrete, there was no lighting or proper toilets. So, we had to take out all the rubbish, pour the floor, and set up toilets. But still there were problems. For example, when the pupils went into the shelter, dust would rise. This is because of concrete's properties, and the shelter was not ventilated».
However, thanks to participation in the «DECIDE: RECONSTRUCTION» Initiative, we managed to attract 4.4 million hryvnias. The same amount was added from the community as co-financing. These funds were used to renovate 976 square metres of premises.
The new shelter at Tereshky Lyceum now has new ventilation, lighting and equipment. Toilets and showers, lifts for people with disabilities, and drinking water tanks were installed.
In addition to the renovation, the shelter was equipped with a modern educational space: laptops, projectors, tablets, and modern furniture were purchased. Now there is everything needed to hold classes, trainings and workshops for children and teenagers of the lyceum in safe conditions.
Eleventh-grader Yuriy Stasiv says the shelter has become more comfortable: «There are a lot of new comfortable chairs here: they are soft and mobile. To be honest, we don't have them at school. The walls are newly painted, and almost every class has its own space. That is, there is a division of who studies where, when they go down to the shelter, and not like before - we all sat in a common area, and it was difficult to study».
