Modern shelter opens at school No. 19 in Chernihiv, providing a safe and comfortable space for students
A modern shelter has been opened at School No. 19 in Chernihiv, creating a truly safe and comfortable environment for students.
This large-scale project was made possible through the "DECIDE: Reconstruction" initiative and co-financing from the city council. The total budget amounted to approximately 4.4 million UAH, with over 4.2 million UAH provided by the DECIDE project and around 164,000 UAH contributed by the local community.
The 238 m² facility underwent a full renovation, from dismantling old structures to installing modern ventilation, water supply, sewage, and heating systems. Electrical wiring was replaced, durable poured flooring was installed, and the walls and ceilings were newly finished. The main entrance was equipped with a lift to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities.
The shelter is fitted with modern equipment, making it not only a secure space but also a functional one. It has been transformed into an educational hub with laptops, tablets, a multimedia projector, screens, and ergonomic furniture. To enhance comfort, the space includes beanbag chairs, storage units, lamps, and a water cooler.
Additionally, DECIDE experts conducted training sessions on project development for shelter improvements. Students learned how to draft budgets, present proposals, and promote their ideas to create an innovative educational space within the shelter.
The "DECIDE: Reconstruction" initiative is part of the Swiss-Ukrainian DECIDE project, aimed at supporting communities in Chernihiv, Odesa, and Poltava regions in restoring schools and equipping school shelters.
