Pupils from 3 partner regions of the DECIDE Project took part in a career guidance culinary battle
Within the framework of the «Culinary Hubs. Training of Master Trainers» Initiative, the DECIDE Project supports many activities, one of which is the Culinary Battle in the Project's partner regions.
So far, the battle has involved 8-9th grade pupils from Ivano-Frankivsk as well as Kyiv region, Lviv region and the city of Lviv. In total, almost 100 teenagers from these regions took part in the battle!
Overall, the Culinary Battle involved teenagers from Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, Poltava, Chernihiv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. To take part in the battle, young people demonstrated their culinary skills and were thus selected.
During the battle, the pupils were divided into teams of 4 participants each. They underwent masterclasses in various professions: pastry chef, cook, bartender, waiter. Each team was mentored by a vocational school student, who helped the participants to complete tasks and learn about the professions. While working together, the teenagers not only tried themselves in the role of a particular specialist, but also understood how a modern coffee shop works and what professions are needed for a successful operation of a catering facility. They also practised their teamwork skills.
Here are the tasks that the participants had to complete:
Pastry chef: to make and decorate the Tiramisu dessert;
Cook: create a unique sandwich/bruschetta according to your own recipe;
Bartender: to prepare a smoothie from vegetables and fruits;
Waiter: set a table for a buffet using the dishes and drinks prepared by other participants.
Each team was given the same set of ingredients, so everyone had equal opportunities for imagination and creativity. Masterclasses and evaluation of the contest were conducted by the vocational school's masters of industrial training.
At the end of the competition, the teams received awards in various categories. The contest is now heading to Odesa, Poltava and Chernihiv regions.
This contest is organised by the NGO Cult Food with the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian project DECIDE which is implemented in Ukraine by a consortium consisting of the NGO DOCCU and PHZH with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine.
